March Newsletter
Greetings from your Friends at Blue Summit,
International Women's Day was first recognized by the United Nations in 1911. International Women's Day events occur all around the world and range from small random informal gatherings to large-scale highly organized events. The focus is to celebrate women's advancement and highlight the need for continued vigilance and action.
While in developed countries like the US, we focus on equal opportunities and issues surrounding the "glass ceiling", in many developing nations, the focus is on the bare necessities of human rights.
During the month of March, we partner with Amnesty International to learn about the issues facing women in developing countries and what we can do to help improve the situation. On March 15, come hear one woman's story about her journey to India and the women she met.
Please join us this month to honor Women Around the World.
You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its women" Jawaharlal Nehru.

Empowering Rwandan Children |
 |
Although the genocide of Rwanda is over and the country works hard to regain its strength, many children remain orphaned and often responsible for the welfare of younger siblings. They are challenged to meet even the basics of life. Cards from Africa is an organization that has stepped up to help these children learn a skill and develop independence.
Located on the outskirts of Kigali, Rwanda, the Cards for Africa workshop is a bustling atmosphere of skilled and creative card makers. At the end of the afternoon, proud and empowered children bring home an income that is 3 to 5 times higher than the average Rwandan's $1 per day. They use this money to feed and clothe their younger brothers and sisters as well as purchase medicine and provide school tuition.
To introduce you to these wonderful cards and support the Rwandan project, we are featuring a special on all of our cards this month. Stop in and buy 2, get one free. It's a great time to stock up and make a difference.

Barabaig Tribe Benefits From Fair Trade |
 |
For centuries, the nomadic Barabaig tribe of East Africa has roamed the plains and savannas, adorning themselves with beautiful rings, bracelets, and jewelry. Through the Amias Project, the Barabaig now want to send their beautiful things and their stories around the world.
The Amias project has mobilized over 200 Barabaig men and women in central Tanzania to design and craft jewelry . The project aims to uplift and empower traditional culture. It also helps generate significant income and educational opportunities for disadvantaged communities.
Amias and its fair trade mission have allowed families to find stability in a region wracked by hardship and frequent drought. More parents now send their children to school, and they have enough food in times of need. They are increasing their livestock and making plans for the future.
Amias, in the ancient language of the Barabaig, means "beautiful." So when wearing Amias jewelry , always remember that you are wearing hope, the story of the Barabaig, and something beautiful.
Barabaig jewelry has arrived at Blue Summit. You have to see the beautiful work and heartfelt spirit put into each piece. Great gifts for men and women.
